California Institute of Technology (Caltech)معرفی
Andrei Bernevig is a Professor in the Department of Physics at Princeton University within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, renowned for pioneering work in topological phases of matter and quantum materials.
He earned his Ph.D. in Physics from Stanford University (2005) following undergraduate studies at the same institution.
Bernevig's research centers on topological electronic states in solids, where he achieved landmark contributions including the theoretical prediction of the quantum spin Hall effect in HgTe quantum wells—later experimentally confirmed—and the development of a comprehensive framework for topological insulators. His influential book "Topological Insulators and Topological Superconductors" established foundational principles in the field. Subsequent work on topological superconductivity in metal-superconductor hybrid systems and predictions of Weyl semimetal states in transition metal monophosphides (e.g., TaAs) and WTe2 catalyzed global experimental efforts.
His major scientific recognitions include:
- Dirac Medal of the ICTP (2019)
- Oliver E. Buckley Condensed Matter Physics Prize (2020)
- Election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2019)
As a Simons Investigator in Physics, Bernevig receives sustained research funding supporting his group's exploration of novel quantum phenomena. His leadership drives collaborative projects bridging theoretical frameworks with experimental realizations in quantum materials.
