معرفی
Andreas Stylianou is an Assistant Professor at the European University Cyprus (Nicosia), affiliated with the School of Sciences' Department of Health Sciences. He holds dual PhDs: one in Applied Biophysics from the National Technical University of Athens (2014) and another in Healthcare Management from the Open University of Cyprus (2018). His research focuses on atomic force microscopy (AFM) applications in cancer diagnosis, tumor microenvironment mechanics, and collagen-based biomaterials. He has led projects funded by the Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation and the European Research Council, including principal investigator roles in 'MehanoSarcoma' and 'PACA-FingerPrints'. Stylianou has received the 2019 Cyprus Young Researcher Award and multiple 'Progress of Science' accolades. His work bridges biophysics, nanotechnology, and clinical oncology, with over 50 peer-reviewed publications and active involvement in international conferences.
- Education:
- B.Sc. Applied Mathematical & Physical Sciences (2007, NTUA)
- MSc Nanotechnology in Medical Imaging (2011, The Open University)
- Ph.D. Optical Radiation Effects on Collagen (2014, NTUA)
- Ph.D. Healthcare Management (2018, Open University of Cyprus)
Research Interests: AFM-based nanomechanical profiling of cancer cells, collagen mechanics in disease, correlative microscopy techniques, and translational nanomedicine. His lab develops mechanical biomarkers for cancer prognosis and treatment monitoring, emphasizing tumor stiffness and extracellular matrix dynamics.
Publications: His work spans AFM methodology improvements, cancer nanomechanics, and therapeutic applications. Notable contributions include defining nanomechanical fingerprints for early cancer diagnosis and elucidating TGF-β's role in pancreatic cancer fibroblasts.
- Awards: Cyprus Research Award (2019), 1st Poster Award (2018), Thomaidio Foundation Awards (2013–2011)
- Grants: €1M+ in funding for projects analyzing tumor mechanics and immunotherapy optimization
- Teams/Labs: Leads the 'MechanoSarcoma' initiative and collaborates with the ReEngineeringCancer ERC project
