Ricardo García García is a Research Professor at the Institute of Materials Science of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC). His work combines theoretical and experimental approaches to advance force microscopy methods, particularly pioneering 3D-AFM for characterizing solid-liquid interfaces, biomolecules, and cells. He has significantly contributed to atomic force microscopy (AFM) and nanotechnology, improving tapping mode AFM resolution and developing multifrequency AFM as a platform for advanced methods.
Education:
- PhD in Physics from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), recognized with the 'Best PhD Thesis in Physics' award (1990).
Research Focus: Specializes in nanomechanical properties of proteins, cells, and polymers; tip-based nanolithography; and open-source AFM simulation tools (e.g., DForce).
Awards and Impact: A top 0.2% scientist globally (2020 ranking), ranked 180 in Nanoscience/Nanotechnology subfield. Holder of prestigious awards including the ERC Advanced Grant (2013) and American Physical Society Fellowship (2007).
