Dr Andreas Stasch is a Research Professor in the School of Chemistry at the University of St Andrews since 2016. Previously, he held ARC-funded research fellowships (2007-2016) at Monash University, Australia. His academic journey includes a diploma (Dipl.-Chem.) and PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) from the University of Göttingen (Germany), followed by postdoctoral research at Cardiff University and Monash University. His research focuses on molecular inorganic and organometallic chemistry of main group elements, emphasizing novel low oxidation state compounds, metal hydride complexes, and their reactivity in catalytic systems. He has supervised PhD students Huanhuan Dong, Rochelle Ferns, and Samuel Thompson.
Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and postgraduate modules such as CH2501 (Inorganic Chemistry 2), CH3512 (Organometallic Chemistry), and contributes to laboratory and assessment activities. His awards include the Alan Sargeson Lectureship (2010) and the Royal Australian Chemical Institute's Organometallic Chemistry Award (2014).
Research interests span sustainable applications of main group elements, novel compound classes in rare oxidation states, and reactive metal hydride species. His group explores their structural uniqueness, electronic properties, and catalytic potential, with recent work highlighted in high-impact journals like Journal of the American Chemical Society and Angewandte Chemie.
