Prof. Dr. Andreas Schwitalla is a German dentist and researcher specializing in digital implantology. Since December 2021, he has held the professorship for "Digital Implantology" at the Einstein Center Digital Future (ECDF) and Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. His work bridges digital planning, surgical implementation, and prosthetic restoration for dental implants, focusing on improving precision and patient outcomes.
- Education: State examination and doctorate in dentistry at University of Tübingen
- Professional Background: Habilitation at Charité Berlin, oral surgery training at University Hospital Zurich and Charité
- Current Positions: ECDF Professor, Medical Director at MVZ MKG Surgery Helene-Weigel-Platz, part-time oral surgeon at MVZ Zahnkultur Berlin-Brandenburg
His research focuses on digital implant planning, navigated implantology, and biomaterial innovations. He advocates for AI-driven automation in implant positioning to account for patient-specific factors like bone quality and chewing strength, as well as exploring metal-free materials for better load transfer to jawbone. Collaborations with AI and robotics experts at ECDF enable novel drilling principles to reduce positional deviations.
At Charité's Department of Dental Prosthetics, Geriatric Dentistry and Functional Dentistry, he combines clinical practice with technological innovation. His work aims to enhance long-term prognosis for toothless patients through advanced digital workflows and material science.
