Andreas Rödder is a Professor of Modern and Contemporary History at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz since 2005. He holds the chair in this field and has held visiting roles at institutions including Johns Hopkins SAIS (Helmut Schmidt Professorship), Brandeis University, and the London School of Economics. His research focuses on Victorian England, German history, 20th-century international politics, and Europe’s global impact since the 19th century.

His research explores themes like German power in Europe, the history of 1989/90, and post-1990 contemporary history. He advises policymakers, sits on the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung board, and contributed to the Chatham House Commission on Democracy and Technology. His political engagements include roles as shadow minister for education in Rheinland-Pfalz and authoring a manifesto for contemporary conservatism.
