Andreas Plückthun is a Full Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Zurich. He has held this position since 1993 and served as Head of the Department from 2012 to 2016. His research focuses on protein engineering, directed evolution of antibodies and engineered binding molecules, and membrane proteins. He teaches modules such as BCH 100 (What is Biochemistry) and BCH 420 (Advanced Protein Engineering) for the Faculty of Science, as well as MZB1050 (Molecular Cell Biology II) for the Faculty of Medicine.
Plückthun received his Chemistry studies from the University of Heidelberg, a PhD from the University of California, San Diego, and completed postdoctoral work at Harvard University. He previously held positions at the Gene Center of the University of Munich and the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry.
