Andreas Pečar

Prof. Dr. Andreas Pečar is a Professor of Early Modern History at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg since 2011. He actively contributes to Enlightenment research through leadership roles in institutions like the Interdisciplinary Center for Early Modern Studies (IZEA) and the Francke Foundations research collaboration.

• Studied Medieval and Modern History, Ancient History, and German Studies at Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and University of Cologne

His research focuses on the administrative history of the Francke Foundations (18th–20th centuries), Prussian higher education policy in Halle during the 18th century, and political decision-making processes in the Ancien Régime, particularly through the lens of Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Dessau's cabinet minutes. He also examines early modern publication strategies, including reprints during the English Civil War and Commonwealth period.

Andreas Pečar has received prestigious awards such as the Heisenberg Fellowship of the DFG, Feodor Lynen Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, and the Humanities International Prize for promoting translation of humanities literature. His leadership roles include serving as Dean of Faculty of Humanities I since 2022 and spokesperson for the state research focus Enlightenment – Religion – Knowledge since 2014.

He supervises PhD and MA students, leads DFG-funded research projects, and collaborates with institutions like the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation and the Max Planck Institute Research School. His academic work bridges historical methodology with interdisciplinary approaches to cultural foundations of integration.
