Andreas Nordin is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Aesthetics at the University of Gothenburg. His work integrates cognitive science, anthropology, and religious studies, with a geographic focus on Himalayan cultures (Nepal/Tibet). He conducts non-funded research in cognitive anthropology of religion and ritual theory, building on fieldwork supported by the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) in 2003.
Research Interests: Nordin explores the intersection of cognition, culture, and religion through frameworks like evolutionary psychology and medical anthropology. Key themes include:
- Supernatural dream cognition and counterintuitive imagery
- Ritual practices in Hindu and Tibetan contexts
- Cultural transmission of religious concepts
- Risk perception in pilgrimage environments
- Death studies and philosophical aspects of science-religion dialogue
Publication Trends: His recent articles (2011–2025) focus on empirical and theoretical analyses of dream phenomena in religious experiences, ritual agency, and cultural evolution. Methodologically, he emphasizes cognitive anthropology and interdisciplinary approaches bridging psychology, ethnography, and religious studies.
Teaching & Advising: Nordin teaches undergraduate courses but currently has no listed graduate students or major grants beyond his doctoral fieldwork funding.
