Dr. Andreas Mooser is a Group Leader of the μTEx group at the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics (MPIK) in Heidelberg, Germany. He is a leading researcher in the field of precision physics, focusing on fundamental properties of protons and antiprotons using Penning trap techniques. His work is central to the BASE (Baryon Antibaryon Symmetry Experiment) collaboration and related high-precision tests of fundamental symmetries.
His research interests include precision spectroscopy, antimatter studies, Penning trap physics, laser cooling of trapped particles, and searches for dark matter via quantum sensors. His work bridges atomic, nuclear, and particle physics, with a strong emphasis on instrumentation and quantum measurement techniques.
The 15 most recent publications show a consistent focus on high-precision comparisons between matter and antimatter, particularly protons and antiprotons, with applications to CPT symmetry tests and searches for new physics. The articles span experimental developments in cryogenic Penning traps, sympathetic cooling, superconducting detection circuits, and transportable antiproton storage. Keywords include quantum measurement, fundamental interactions, and precision instrumentation, with sub-fields covering magnetic moments, charge-to-mass ratios, axion-like dark matter, and laser cooling.
Dr. Mooser has contributed to groundbreaking results such as a 16-parts-per-trillion measurement of the antiproton-to-proton charge–mass ratio and a 350-fold improvement in the antiproton magnetic moment measurement. His work has been published in top journals including Nature and Physical Review Letters.
He leads the μTEx group, which develops novel techniques for sympathetic laser cooling and fluorescence detection of single protons and antiprotons. His team works closely with other leading scientists such as Klaus Blaum and Stefan Ulmer, and collaborates with institutions involved in antimatter research at CERN.
