Dr. Andreas Kunzmann is a Working Group Leader in Experimental Aquaculture at the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) in Bremen, Germany. His research focuses on the ecophysiological responses of marine organisms to environmental stressors, including climate change, pollution, and aquaculture practices. He leads projects on Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA), metabolic adaptations in fish under hypoxia and thermal stress, and coral reef ecosystem dynamics.
His work spans tropical regions such as Indonesia, Vietnam, Tanzania, and Zanzibar, emphasizing sustainable resource management. Key research areas include:
- Stress metabolism in fish and invertebrates
- Bioremediation via co-culture systems (e.g., seaweed-sea cucumber IMTA)
- Nutrient cycling in aquaculture effluents
- Coral disease epidemiology and reef recovery
Kunzmann's publications (2022–2025) predominantly investigate climate resilience in aquaculture species, bioremediation techniques, and coral reef health. Trends include metabolic adaptation to temperature extremes, dietary mitigation strategies for farmed fish, and low-cost IMTA solutions. His collaborative projects address socio-ecological challenges in coastal communities.
