Prof. Dr. Andreas Krause serves as Professor and Lecturer for Applied Psychology at the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW), School of Applied Psychology since October 2006. He currently holds the position of Co-Director of the Institute for Mental and Organizational Health, where he leads research initiatives at the intersection of psychological well-being and organizational structures.
His educational background includes a Diploma in Psychology with distinction from the University of Osnabrück (1997) and a doctoral degree (Dr. phil.) with distinction from the University of Flensburg in 2002. His dissertation focused on "Psychological Stress in Classrooms – A Task-Based Research Approach. Analysis of Teachers' Work." Prior to his current position, he worked as a Research Assistant at Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg (2002-2006) and as a Research Associate at the University of Flensburg (1997-2002).
Krause's research centers on work and health psychology, with particular emphasis on psychosocial risk assessment, corporate health management, and the design of indirect control mechanisms in organizations. His work examines both positive and negative approaches to workplace design, interested self-endangerment versus other coping strategies, and mental health in educational settings. He advises health insurance companies on developing advisory services for their corporate clients and has led numerous projects including "Do-it-yourself offer for Swiss SMEs," "No more time recording in banks," and "New forms of work and mental health."
His recent publications demonstrate consistent scholarly output in occupational health, with particular focus on apprentice mental health, team resilience, and healthy leadership practices. The research shows strong methodological diversity, combining quantitative monitoring with qualitative case studies across Swiss vocational training and corporate environments.
Krause actively supervises student projects and Bachelor's and Master's theses while teaching courses on Work and Health Psychology, Overview of Work, Organizational and Personnel Psychology, and continuing education programs including CAS Corporate Health Management and CAS Self-Management through the FHNW School of Business.
He works closely with the Institute for Mental and Organizational Health, which addresses challenges and opportunities presented by digitalization, social upheavals, and new work forms for mental and organizational health. The institute serves as a hub for applied research connecting academic insights with practical workplace interventions.
