Andreas Kalckert is a Senior Lecturer in Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Skövde, School of Bioscience, Department of Biosciences. He serves as head of subject for cognitive neuroscience and has previously held positions as head of research and program director for the master's program.
Dr. Kalckert has a background in neuroscience and cognitive science, with international experience studying and working in Germany, Austria, Hungary, Sweden, and Malaysia. He teaches at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in areas including biopsychology, perception, cognitive functions, and research methods.
His research focuses on the processes underlying the experience of one's own body, particularly examining the role of movements from both psychological and neuroscientific perspectives. He investigates body ownership illusions, multisensory integration, and virtual reality applications in understanding embodiment. His work has resulted in numerous publications in prestigious journals and collaborations with researchers from Germany, Italy, UK, Malaysia, and Japan.
Dr. Kalckert's recent research has centered on the rubber hand illusion, self-face perception, and the relationship between bodily dimensions and personality traits. His publications demonstrate a consistent focus on understanding how the brain constructs our experience of having a body.
He is currently leading several ongoing research projects including:
- Self-face perception (2022-2025)
- Embodiment and disembodiment in the rubber hand illusion (2021-2025)
- A graph analysis of rubber hand illusion questionnaire data (2023-2025)
- The rubber hand illusion: referral of touch and ownership (2019-2025)
- Breathing and the experience of body ownership (2024-2025)
- Agency of others (2024-2025)
- Virtual touch experiences and embodiment (2022-2025)
Dr. Kalckert has also contributed to academic leadership through editorial work, including serving as editor for conference proceedings and special journal issues on doctoral supervision.
