Andreas Hetzel

Professor Andreas Hetzel holds a habilitation (Dr. phil. habil.) and is affiliated with the Department of Philosophy at the University of Hildesheim, within the Faculty of Cultural Studies and Aesthetic Communication. He is a core member of the DFG Research Training Group 2477 (Ästhetische Praxis) and actively involved in academic governance, serving as Faculty Representative for the BA and MA programs in Philosophy-Arts-Media and Intercultural Philosophy. His roles include membership in the Research Committee and Quality Management Commission of Faculty 2.

Research focuses include social philosophy (power theories, pathologies of the social), cultural philosophy (culture as practice), political philosophy (democratization), ethics (normativity, alterity, environmental ethics), philosophical aesthetics (literature, poetics), modern philosophy (German idealism, pragmatism, critical theory), and philosophy of language (pragmatics, rhetoric). He has organized interdisciplinary initiatives such as workshops on decolonizing philosophy, addressing right-wing extremism in academia, and global philosophy dialogue series. His work bridges theory and practice, emphasizing philosophical engagement beyond traditional academic confines.
