Research Interests

His work emphasizes hypothesis-driven molecular pathophysiology studies in ALS/FTD (particularly FUS-ALS), Huntington’s Disease (HD), Parkinson’s Disease (PD), and VPS13opathies. Key areas include:

• Pathophysiology-guided drug development
• Multi-modal biomarker discovery (serum/CSF, MRI, PET, behavioral endophenotypes)
• Characterization of prodromal neurodegenerative states

Clinical and Patient-Centered Focus

The group leads the DESCIBE-ALS cohort, participates in phase 1–3 clinical trials (including antisense oligonucleotides), and investigates quality of life (QoL) in advanced neurodegenerative patients using eye-tracking systems. They are also involved in the Interside project (Next-of-Kins studies in FTD) and the PROSA Study (digital speech biomarkers for ALS/FTD clinical trials).

Human Cell Models

They develop patient-derived iPSC cultures and fibroblast models integrated with clinical data, biomaterials, and postmortem tissue. Research explores mitochondrial dysfunction, axonopathy, DNA damage, retrotransposon activation, and cell-intrinsic immune responses.
