Andreas Feldmann

Andreas Feldmann is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science and the Latin American and Latino Studies Program at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He serves as Principal Investigator of the Global Immigration Cluster Initiative at UIC. His research focuses on comparative politics and international relations, with a regional specialization in Latin America. Key research areas include terrorism, forced migration, criminal politics, human rights, and foreign policy.

He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Notre Dame (2002). His work has been supported by grants from the Ford Foundation, the International Development Research Centre, and others. He has consulted for organizations such as the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Previously, he held positions at the Instituto de Ciencia Política in Chile and the University of Chicago's Human Rights Program.

Feldmann’s research explores the intersection of political violence, migration, and governance. His notable works include Repertoires of Terrorism: Organizational Identity and Violence in Colombia's Civil War (Columbia UP, 2024) and Criminal Politics and Botched Development in Contemporary Latin America (Cambridge UP, 2023). His recent articles analyze migration patterns, criminal governance, and democratic challenges in Latin America.

His contributions span policy analysis and academic publishing, addressing topics like transnational criminal networks, internal displacement, and regional security cooperation. He actively engages with policymakers and international bodies to inform responses to complex political and humanitarian crises.
