Andreas Demetriou is Professor of Psychology at the University of Nicosia and President of the University of Nicosia Research Foundation. Previously, he held professorships at the University of Cyprus (1996-2011) and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1983-1996). He served as Vice-Rector and Acting Rector at the University of Cyprus (1999-2002), founding president of Cyprus University of Technology (2004-2008), and Minister of Education and Culture of Cyprus (2008-2011).
He received his BA (1975) and PhD (1983) in psychology from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
His research focuses on developing an integrated theory of the mind, combining developmental, psychometric, and cognitive approaches. Key areas include:
- Cognitive development across lifespan
- Information processing and working memory
- Intelligence architecture and individual differences
- Brain-cognitive development relations
- Applications in educational reform
- Executive control and deductive reasoning
His 150+ publications primarily explore cognitive architecture, mental processing dynamics, and developmental psychology, with work featured in special journal issues.
