Dr. Andreas Brachmann is a Lecturer and Group Leader at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU) within the Department of Genetics at the Biocenter. His research focuses on fungal genetics, prion biology, and gene regulation in organisms like Ustilago maydis. He leads the Genomics Service Unit and serves as a Radiation Protection Commissioner. Brachmann holds a PhD from LMU (1995–2001) under Prof. Regine Kahmann and completed postdoctoral research at the NIH (2001–2005). His work spans molecular genetics, symbiotic interactions, and microbial ecology. He actively engages in teaching modules such as Molecular and Cell Biology and coordinates outreach programs like the 'Genetik macht Schule' initiative to promote science education.
His research highlights include studies on prion formation in yeast, fungal pathogenesis mechanisms, and the impact of environmental factors on microbial communities. Brachmann's publications frequently address fungal-microbe interactions, genomic analyses, and the ecological implications of land use changes. He contributes to academic governance through roles in the Faculty Steering Committee and various academic committees, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches in biology education and research.
