Andrea Veltman is a Professor of Philosophy at James Madison University since 2006, affiliated with the Department of Philosophy & Religion under the College of Arts and Letters. She holds a B.A. (Summa Cum Laude) from Eastern Illinois University, and M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Her research focuses on ethical and political philosophy, particularly meaningful work, universal basic income, the ethics of belief, and autonomy in contexts of social oppression. Notable works include Meaningful Work (Oxford, 2016) and a forthcoming book on W.K. Clifford’s ethics of belief. She received the 2025 Madison Scholar Award for scholarly excellence. Her teaching includes courses on moral theory, political philosophy, and ethical reasoning. She maintains a lab focused on philosophical inquiry into labor ethics and social justice.
