Andrea Shepherd is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Baylor University's Louise Herrington School of Nursing (LHSON), teaching didactic, clinical, and DNP project courses in the Family Nurse Practitioner program while also instructing pre-nursing students on the Waco campus.
Her educational background includes:
- DNP from University of Maryland Baltimore
- Certificate in Teaching in Nursing and Health Professions from University of Maryland Baltimore
- BSN from University of Virginia
Specializing in preventative medicine as a Family Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Shepherd has sub-specialized in lung cancer screening, pulmonary nodule management, and tobacco cessation counseling. Recognized as a national expert, she developed Washington DC's lung cancer screening program and focuses research on reducing disparities in screening and smoking cessation for underserved populations, alongside critical care nursing experience.
She serves on Baylor's Graduate Studies/DNP Program Committee, Educational Technology Committee, DNP Project Committee, and DNP Day of Presentation Task Force. Externally, she participates in the Lung Cancer Screening Disparities Advisory Board (MedStar Health/Georgetown University) and previously served on the American College of Radiology's Lung Cancer Screening 2.0 Steering Committee. Professional affiliations include AANP, AACN, NLN, and the GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer.
Dr. Shepherd actively mentors underprivileged youth, provides volunteer medical services through Mosaic Waco, and supports Baylor Athletics with her family.
