Dr. Andrea Serio is an Associate Professor in Neural Tissue Engineering at King's College London, affiliated with the London Centre for Nanotechnology, Department of Basic & Clinical Neuroscience, and School of Neuroscience. His research focuses on integrating bioengineering, stem cell technologies, and neuroscience to model nervous system pathologies, particularly neurodegenerative diseases like ALS and multiple sclerosis. Key collaborations include Prof. Jernej Ule, Prof. Rickie Patani, and Prof. Giampietro Schiavo.
Research interests span lipidomics, motor neuron biology, and bioengineered platforms for disease modeling. Notable projects include the SOL3D microfabrication pipeline and contributions to the MAGIC consortium for neuromuscular disease therapies. His work has been supported by grants from the UK Dementia Research Institute, MRC, Wellcome Trust, and others.
Scientific contributions include pioneering studies on axonal length effects in motor neurons, lipidomics in living tissues, and stem cell-derived models of neurodegenerative disorders. Dr. Serio’s interdisciplinary approach bridges engineering and biology to advance tools for neural circuit analysis and biomaterial development.
