Andrea Schneider

Andrea Schneider is a Researcher in the Aquatic Ecology department at the Faculty of Biology, University of Duisburg-Essen. Her work focuses on the intersection of biodiversity conservation and river restoration, particularly examining the impacts of maintenance practices on water-related green spaces and floodplain grasslands.

Her current research is part of the EU-funded MERLIN project (project-merlin.eu), a collaborative effort involving 45 partners across Europe. The project investigates social, economic, and ecological success factors to develop nature-based solutions for freshwater systems, with the Emscher River in Germany serving as one of 17 key case studies.

Her research emphasizes the comparison of extensive management methods (e.g., seeding, extensive mowing) against conventional intensive practices on Emscher dikes, aiming to balance biodiversity promotion with flood protection requirements.
