Prof. Dr. Andrea Schmidt is a Professor of Social Pedagogical Action Concepts at Potsdam University of Applied Sciences, leading the part-time BASA-online Social Work program and the Master's program in Social Management. Her academic journey includes a PhD from TU Berlin (2000), a Master's in Human Resources (2005), and prior roles as a social worker and research assistant. She has held significant administrative roles, including Vice President for Studies and Teaching at her university (2014–2018) and Chair of the Central Institution for Continuing Education (2019–2023).
Her research focuses on social pedagogical theories, gender studies, and social management, with a strong emphasis on gender equity and queer knowledge. Key areas include the economization of social work, intercultural openness strategies, and deconstructive pedagogy. She has contributed to numerous publications, including works on feminist theory, media's impact on youth, and institutional development.
Prof. Schmidt is actively involved in professional organizations such as the German Society for Social Work (DGS) and the nationwide teaching network. Her recent projects include evaluating gender-equitable youth work guidelines in Brandenburg and curating exhibitions on women's life paths. Her work bridges academic research with practical applications in social work and education.
