Andrea Romeo

Andrea Romeo is a Full Professor of General and Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Messina's Department of Chemical, Biological, Pharmaceutical and Environmental Sciences, where he has held academic positions since 2001. He teaches courses including Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory and General and Inorganic Chemistry across multiple degree programs.

His research focuses on:

• Supramolecular organization of chromophoric systems (porphyrins, platinum complexes) in solution and biological matrices
• Chirality expression at nano/mesoscopic scales using spectroscopic (UV/Vis, CD, fluorescence) and microscopic (AFM, SEM) techniques
• Reaction mechanisms of platinum(II) organometallics and their biological interactions
• Nanomaterial design for sensing, optoelectronics, and drug delivery applications
• Development of organic dyes for fuel cell membranes

With 97 peer-reviewed publications (h-index: 30), his recent works demonstrate strong emphasis on porphyrin self-assembly kinetics, J-aggregate formation, chiral induction mechanisms, and hybrid nanomaterials. Research frequently employs spectroscopic analysis of supramolecular systems interacting with biological components.

He has coordinated/participated in 12 national research projects (PRIN, PRA) focused on reaction mechanisms, C-H bond activation, and functional nanomaterials. Current affiliations include the Institute for the Study of Nanostructured Materials (ISMN-CNR).

International experience includes research at University of Strasbourg and Swarthmore College. Service includes editorial board membership for the International Journal of Molecular Sciences and organization of national chemistry conferences.
