Andrea Reimer is an Adjunct Professor of Practice at the University of British Columbia’s School of Public Policy and Global Affairs (part of the Faculty of Arts). She previously served as Vancouver City Councilmember (2008-2018), pioneering initiatives like the Greenest City Action Plan and Indigenous reconciliation frameworks. A former Vancouver School Board member (2002-2008), she transitioned to academia post-politics via a Harvard Loeb Fellowship (2018), where she studied urban policy and democracy.
Education: Completed prestigious Loeb Fellowship at Harvard Graduate School of Design.
Research: Focuses on sustainable urban governance, Indigenous reconciliation in municipal policy, and participatory democracy. Her work bridges theory with practice through policy design and implementation case studies.
Teaching: Leads the Global Policy Project course (PPGA 590B) and special topics courses integrating practitioner expertise. Engages students in real-world policy challenges with client organizations.
Awards: Recognized nationally/internationally for policy innovations including the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Award (2012) and World Green Building Council’s Chairman’s Award (2016).
Community Impact: Served on diverse boards (credit unions, Canadian Women Voters Congress) and maintains active public speaking engagements globally to share policy strategies.
