
Andrea Reid

Dr. Andrea Reid is an Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia's Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries (IOF), Faculty of Science. She is a citizen of the Nisga’a Nation and leads the Centre for Indigenous Fisheries, a national/international hub for fish and fisheries research. Her interdisciplinary work integrates Western and Indigenous sciences to study fish, people, and place interrelationships. Reid holds a PhD in Biology (Carleton University, 2020) and received the Governor General’s Gold Medal for her research on Pacific salmon stressors. She co-founded Riparia, a charity empowering young women in water science, and is a National Geographic Explorer and Explorers Club Fellow.

Research Interests: Focuses on ecosystem services, environmental change, and marine biodiversity through lenses of Indigenous data sovereignty, decolonizing science, and fisheries governance. Her work emphasizes ethical research partnerships, climate adaptation, and Indigenous-led conservation strategies. Recent projects address freshwater biodiversity threats, pollution as colonialism, and Two-Eyed Seeing frameworks in fisheries management.
