Andrea Nagy

Dr. Andrea Nagy is an Associate Professor and Deputy Head of the Department of English Linguistics at the Institute of English Studies, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary. Previously, she served as an Assistant Professor at Pázmány Péter Catholic University.

Her academic background includes:

• PhD in Literary Studies from Eötvös Loránd University (2014), with dissertation "Women, Words and Violence in Old English Poetry"
• MA in English Language and Literature from Eötvös Loránd University (1998)
• Certified Translator qualification from Eötvös Loránd University (2009)

Dr. Nagy specializes in Old English language and literature, with particular focus on women's voices, gender representation, and violence in early medieval poetry. Her research spans the history of the English language, introduction to linguistics, phonetics, and language development. She has made significant contributions to the Hungarian translation of Old English texts, including Tolkien's Beowulf translation.

Her scholarly work demonstrates consistent engagement with the themes of gender, violence, and community in medieval literature, with a particular emphasis on how these concepts manifest in Old English poetry. Her research trajectory shows increasing interest in Tolkien studies alongside her foundational work on Anglo-Saxon literature.
