Andrea Lavagno

Andrea Lavagno is a Full Professor in the Department of Applied Science and Technology (DISAT) at the Polytechnic University of Turin. His research focuses on theoretical aspects of nuclear physics and astrophysics, particularly in the areas of neutron stars, nuclear matter under extreme conditions, and relativistic heavy-ion collisions.

His research interests include:

• Phase transitions in nuclear matter

Professor Lavagno's recent work shows a strong focus on the intersection of nuclear physics and astrophysics, particularly in understanding the properties of matter under extreme conditions found in neutron stars and heavy-ion collision experiments. His publications consistently address fundamental questions about phase transitions, quark matter, and the equation of state of dense nuclear matter.

His scientific contributions are recognized in the fields of Nuclear Astrophysics (ERC PE2_4), Nuclear Physics (ERC PE2_3), Statistical Physics (ERC PE2_16), and Thermodynamics (ERC PE2_13).

Professor Lavagno supervises PhD students, including Luca Passarella who is working on topics related to thermal field fluctuations and chiral Lagrangians. He has been involved in significant research projects, notably the "Study of the Relativistic Nuclear Equation of State" (2011-2013) as Scientific Director of the National Research PRIN program.

He is affiliated with the Fundamental Physics and Materials for Nanotechnology Institute (DISAT) and the Fundamental Nuclear and Subnuclear Physics research group, working within the Nuclear and Subnuclear Physics Laboratory.
