Andrea Kantrowitz

Andrea Kantrowitz is an Associate Professor and Program Director in the Art Education Department at SUNY New Paltz. She holds an EdD from Columbia University, an MFA from Yale University, and a BS from Harvard University. Her research focuses on drawing as a transdisciplinary tool for observation, discovery, and invention, bridging art, pedagogy, and cognitive science. She authored Drawing Thought: How Drawing Helps Us Observe, Discover and Invent, published by MIT Press, which explores drawing’s role in collaborative learning and research.

Her professional development work spans K-12 and higher education, emphasizing equity through art integration. She leads the Thinking through Drawing Project, advocating for drawing’s cognitive and interdisciplinary potential.
