Professor Genre's research explores the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying plant-fungus interactions in mycorrhizal symbiosis. His work particularly investigates compatibility mechanisms in arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis using advanced cellular biology approaches including fluorescence, electron and confocal microscopy; live cell imaging; fluorescent protein expression; FRAP; FRET; immunolocalizations; microtomy; and in vitro cultures. His research bridges fundamental biological processes with potential agricultural applications.
His research has led to applied field projects including AMFORQuality and MILAGRO (funded by Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Cuneo), and ChangeTOM (funded by Fondazione Compagnia di SanPaolo). He is currently involved in the PRIN 2022 project CIRCLES (Chito-oligosaccharides treatment Implementation to Reinforce Crop LEgume Symbioses).
Professor Genre teaches several courses including Plant Biotechnology, Cellular and Differentiation Biology, Cellular and Molecular Plant Biology, General Botany with Laboratory, and Applied Plant Biology Laboratory across undergraduate and graduate programs in Biological Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Mountain Science.
He actively participates in academic governance through multiple committees including the Degree Course Council, Master's Degree Course Council in Plant Biotechnology, Department Board, Library Commission, Teaching Commission, and International Mobility Committee.
