Andrea Davis

Andrea Davis serves as Associate Professor of History in the Department of History at Arkansas State University's College of Liberal Arts and Communication. Her expertise centers on modern Spanish and European history, with specialized focus on memory cultures, digital public history, and oral history methodologies related to the Spanish Civil War and Francoist Dictatorship.

Research Focus: Dr. Davis investigates how individuals negotiate subjectivity under repressive regimes through critical archival analysis and digital storytelling. Her work examines evolving social narratives of 20th-century Spain, particularly the intersection of personal memory with collective trauma during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) and Francoist Dictatorship (1939-1975), employing digital humanities frameworks to democratize historical access.

Grant Support: Her research has secured funding from major institutions including the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History, and Fulbright Program.

Leadership & Projects: As director of the international initiative 'Memory and History: Transforming the Narrative of the Spanish Civil War and Francoist Dictatorship', she integrates 250+ hours of oral history testimony with interactive scholarship. She co-organizes the 'Towards a Spanish Civil War Digital Research Infrastructure' working group, directed the Undergraduate Certificate in Digital Humanities (2018-2022), and served as General Editor for the Bulletin for Spanish and Portuguese Historical Studies (2019-2022), where she championed special issues on Digital Humanities and Transnational Iberian Studies.

Collaborative Ecosystem: Her work operates at the nexus of the Spanish Civil War Memory Project, Virtual Museum of the Spanish Civil War, and international academic networks, fostering cross-institutional teams to develop digital infrastructures for historical memory preservation.
