Andrea Brinnel serves as adjunct faculty at Bay Path University and The University of Hartford, and is a faculty member at the University of Connecticut Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. She retired in 2021 from the Connecticut State Department of Education where she was Preschool Special Education Coordinator and special education consultant for charter and magnet schools.
Dr. Brinnel's research and professional interests focus on Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Education Leadership, Inclusive Education, and Early Learning. She has championed the meaningful inclusion of children with special education needs in general education settings, the development of a quality continuum of services from birth through grade 3, and the importance of building strong knowledge and skills in special education and early childhood among educational leaders.
Dr. Brinnel managed Connecticut's School Readiness and Smart Start grant programs at the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood. With over thirty years of experience as a classroom teacher and central office administrator in Connecticut and Massachusetts, she has presented on early learning issues at international symposia in the UAE and national webinars.
