Andrea Biviano is a senior researcher at the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF), Italy, specifically affiliated with the INAF – Osservatorio Astronomico di Trieste. He holds the position of First Researcher (grade 5) since 2017 and has served in various leadership roles, including Deputy Director of INAF-OATs (2018–2020) and Co-Manager of the Euclid Work Package 'Clusters of Galaxies - Implementation' (2011–2021).
- PhD in Astrophysics (1992) from Trieste University
- Postdoctoral roles at Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris (1993–1994) and Sterrewacht Leiden (1995)
- Member of the ISO-CAM team at ESA (1996–1998)
His research focuses on astrophysics, particularly the structure and dynamics of galaxy clusters, galaxy evolution in dense environments, and dark matter distribution. He has contributed to seminal work on mass profiles of galaxy clusters using member galaxies as tracers and the interplay between gravitational interactions and environmental effects on galaxies.
Andrea has delivered 21 invited talks at international conferences and 33 invited seminars at research institutions. His work is characterized by a strong emphasis on multi-wavelength approaches to understanding cosmic structures. He is also associated with the CLASH-VLT project and has contributed to the Euclid mission's cluster analysis framework.
