Andrea Ballabio is a Professor of Medical Genetics at the University of Naples 'Federico II' and a Visiting Professor at Baylor College of Medicine. He serves as a Principal Investigator and former Scientific Director at the Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine (TIGEM) in Italy. His career includes roles as an Assistant and Associate Professor at Baylor, Co-director of the Human Genome Center, and President of the European Society of Human Genetics (1998).
- Education: M.D. (1981) from University of Naples; Pediatric residency; Postdoctoral training at Institute of Genetics and Biophysics (Naples) and Guy’s Hospital (London).
Research focuses on medical genetics, genetic disease mechanisms, and translational medicine. He has authored over 400 peer-reviewed publications and holds honorary titles from the Italian Republic and the University of Camerino.
Awards include the ERC Advanced Grant (three times), Louis-Jeantet Prize for Medicine, and Feltrinelli Prize. He is a member of EMBO since 1998 and the prestigious Accademia dei Lincei.
Advisory roles include positions at INGM Milan, IGBMC Strasbourg, Human Technopole Milan, and VIMM Padua. He co-founded CASMA Therapeutics and advises Next Generation Diagnostics and Avilar Therapeutics.
