Andrea A Domenighetti serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. He is also a Research Scientist and Principal Investigator at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago. His work bridges academic research with clinical rehabilitation science, focusing on translational approaches to improve patient outcomes.
Education:
- Diploma in Biology, University of Geneva, Switzerland
- PhD in Physiology, University of Melbourne, Australia (2006)
- MBA, Quinlan School of Business, Loyola University (2023)
Dr. Domenighetti's research centers on identifying preclinical and translational mechanisms related to skeletal muscle impairment in neurological and neuromuscular conditions. His work spans molecular and cellular biology, with particular emphasis on biomarker discovery for neurological patients' therapy and disease outcomes. He investigates drug repurposing strategies and molecular mechanisms underlying conditions such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and spinal cord injury. His laboratory employs tools from molecular & cell biology, genetics, and experimental models to identify new biomarkers and therapeutic targets for rehabilitation.
Scientific Recognition:
- HALO Awards, Halo Cures and MATTER, Chicago (2018)
- Excellence Award for Research in Cardiovascular Diseases, Pfizer (Stiftung Pfizer Forschungspreis) - Switzerland (2007)
Dr. Domenighetti serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Cellular Biochemistry (2020-Present) and is affiliated with Northwestern University Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (NUCATS) and the Simpson Querrey Institute for Epigenetics. His research program at the Domenighetti Research Laboratory focuses on translational biomedicine, with projects examining muscle impairment in cerebral palsy, biomarkers for spinal cord injury recovery, and pathogen presence on prosthetic liners.
