Andre Oboler

Dr. Andre Oboler is an Adjunct Associate Professor at La Trobe University's Law School and CEO of the Online Hate Prevention Institute (OHPI), a nonprofit dedicated to combating online hate. He specializes in cybersecurity policy, cyber law, and strategies to counter extremism. Holding a PhD in Computer Science from Lancaster University, he also earned an LLM/JD and B.Comp.Sc. (Hons) from Monash University. His post-doctoral work at Bar-Ilan University focused on political science.

His research focuses on online hate speech, extremism, and digital policy. He teaches courses like Cyber Law & Policy and Surveillance and Privacy in the Digital Age. Beyond academia, he serves as Chair of the IEEE Global Policy Caucus, Vice President of the IEEE Computer Society, and a member of Australia’s delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).

Dr. Oboler frequently advises governments and corporations on cybersecurity policy and digital engagement. His media commentary addresses issues like post-Christchurch terror legislation and social media regulation. He also provides consulting services for organizations tackling online hate and extremism.

His work with OHPI includes submissions to parliamentary inquiries on online safety and anti-racism frameworks. He collaborates with global entities to develop strategies for mitigating hate speech and violent extremism online.
