Anders Andersson

Dr. Anders Andersson is a Scientific Co-Lead for Planetary Biology at SciLifeLab and Associate Professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. His research focuses on microbial community analysis using metagenomics and molecular tools, with primary interests in the Baltic Sea microbiome and human gut microbiota.

Research emphasizes bioinformatics tool development and ecological network modeling of microbial communities. Projects include genome reconstruction of abundant marine microbes and cross-system comparisons between aquatic and human-associated microbiomes. His group (Environmental Genomics) trains PhD students Luisa Hugerth, Yue Hu, and Johannes Alneberg. Collaborations with Lund University and KTH are ongoing.

Scientific contributions include the CONCOCT algorithm for metagenomic binning and Baltic Sea plankton genome cataloging. Current work extends to nuclear waste repository microbiology and microbial monitoring frameworks in EU projects.
