Dr. Anca-Larisa Sandu-Giuraniuc is a Lecturer at the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition, University of Aberdeen. Affiliated with the Aberdeen Biomedical Imaging Centre, she leads research in structural/functional MRI, cortical complexity analysis, and brain ageing. Her work bridges neuroimaging with epigenetics and mental health epidemiology.
- PhD in MRI Brain Metrics (University of Bergen)
- MSc in Nonlinearity in Complex Systems (Al.I.Cuza University)
- Medical Bioengineering Graduate (Romania)
Research Interests focus on
- Quantitative neuroimaging methods for cortical complexity
- Life-course factors influencing brain ageing
- Epigenetic regulation of cortical volumes
- Mood disorder neurobiology via connectivity analysis
- Historical neuroanatomy studies
Scientific Awards include the 2017 Best Psychiatry Research Article Prize. She supervises PhD studies on cortical complexity and leads grants totaling £139,081, including projects on:
- Functional connectivity and cognitive resilience
- Hippocampal subfields in dementia
- Brain predictors of cognitive decline
Her teaching includes Statistics and Maths for Imaging modules in Medical Physics programs.
