Anaïs Henneguelle is a Lecturer in Economics at the University of Paris-Cité, affiliated with the Ladyss laboratory. Her academic work spans both economics and sociology, with a focus on the intersection of these disciplines in understanding legal institutions, prison systems, and quantitative practices. She teaches across multiple institutions including Paris-Cité University, University of Rennes 2, University of Paris 13, Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, École Normale Supérieure de Paris-Saclay, and Centrale-Supélec Engineering School, covering both undergraduate and graduate levels as well as preparation for competitive examinations.
Dr. Henneguelle holds a Doctorate in Economics and Sociology from ENS Paris-Saclay, with her 2017 thesis titled "How to Get Out of Prison? The Role of Prison Statistics in Understanding Recidivism Behavior." Her research combines econometric methods with ethnographic approaches to examine the political economy of justice systems, particularly focusing on prison statistics, recidivism patterns, and alternative sentencing mechanisms.
Her research interests center on political economy, the economics and sociology of law and judicial institutions, applied microeconomics and econometrics for public policy evaluation, and the sociology of statistics and quantification. She employs mixed-method approaches, integrating quantitative analysis with qualitative insights to understand how prison statistics are constructed and how they influence policy decisions regarding recidivism and sentence adjustments. Her work examines the consequences of electronic monitoring compared to traditional incarceration, the privatization of prison services, and the social construction of penal statistics.
Dr. Henneguelle's publications reveal a consistent focus on the intersection of quantitative methods and social analysis within the penal system. Her research demonstrates how statistical practices shape institutional understanding of recidivism and inform policy decisions about sentence alternatives. She has examined the effectiveness of semi-liberty programs, electronic monitoring, and other alternatives to traditional incarceration through rigorous econometric analysis informed by ethnographic understanding of prison systems.
As an educator, she has held significant teaching responsibilities including serving as Director of the AES department at Rennes 2 University (from January 2021) and Head of the MEEF master's degree, SES course (September 2019 - August 2021). Her teaching spans economics and sociology audiences, including economics students as well as students in preparatory classes, engineering schools, AES, MIASHS, sociology, history, and management programs.
Her research is conducted within the Ladyss laboratory at University of Paris-Cité, where she collaborates on collective research projects examining quantification practices, penal policies, and social justice issues. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges economics, sociology, and criminology to provide nuanced understanding of how statistical practices shape institutional decision-making in the justice system.
