Anastassia Voronova is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Genetics at the University of Alberta, focusing on neural stem cell biology and brain regeneration. Her lab investigates oligodendrocyte genesis, myelin formation, and their roles in neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders.
Research Interests: Voronova's work centers on epigenetic and environmental regulation of neural stem cells, particularly how Ankrd11 and fractalkine signaling drive oligodendrocyte differentiation. Her studies bridge KBG syndrome, autism, and multiple sclerosis pathology with regenerative strategies.
Publications Trends: Recent work (2020–2022) highlights fractalkine's therapeutic potential for remyelination and Ankrd11's role in chromatin-mediated neural development. Earlier studies (2015–2017) established her expertise in chemokine signaling and autism-linked gene regulation.
Scientific Awards:
- Sloan Research Fellowship in Neuroscience (2023)
- Young Scientist Lectureship, International Society for Neurochemistry (2023)
- Jordi Folch-Pi Award, American Society for Neurochemistry (2022)
- University of Alberta Excellence in Mentoring Award
Education & Training: Ph.D. from the University of Ottawa, postdoctoral training with Drs. Freda Miller and David Kaplan at the Hospital for Sick Children.
