Anastasios Plessas is an Honorary University Fellow in the Faculty of Health at the University of Plymouth. He is also a General Dental Practitioner with experience as an NIHR Academic & Clinical Fellow in General Dental Practice (2004-2020). His doctoral research focuses on community engaged dental education and social accountability, aiming to improve empathy among dental students and address oral health equity gaps for vulnerable populations.
Research Interests:
- Epidemiological studies including piercing complications and systemic/oral health links
- Systematic reviews and evidence synthesis
- Behavioral research (e.g., stress impact on dentists, mental health in dentistry)
- Public health initiatives targeting access to dental care for marginalized groups
- Qualitative studies on urgent dental care during the pandemic
