Anastasios Gourgourinis

Anastasios Gourgourinis is an Assistant Professor of Public International Law at the Faculty of Law of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, specializing in International Economic Law. He also serves as a Research Fellow at the Academy of Athens and a membre associé at the University of Bourgogne's CREDIMI. His academic credentials include an LL.B. and LL.M. from the University of Athens, and an LL.M. (Distinction) and Ph.D. from University College London. Previously, he worked as a Special Legal Advisor in Greece's Ministries for Development and Competitiveness, advising on investment, trade, and state aid matters. He is admitted to the Athens Bar and practices law in Greece.

His research focuses on public international law, international investment law, and WTO law, with an emphasis on international arbitration, state responsibility, and normative fragmentation. He teaches courses on international dispute resolution mechanisms and legal theory. Notable publications include edited volumes on transnational actors in investment law and the interplay between international investment and competition law.

Professionally, he supervises the Summer Law School on International Investment Law, coordinates the Trade Law Clinic, and mentors moot court teams (e.g., Vis Moot, WTO Moot). His recent work examines legal frameworks for sovereign debt restructuring, environmental state disputes, and the compatibility of intra-EU BITs with EU law.

He has contributed to debates on the role of equity principles in WTO jurisprudence and legal responses to financial crises. His scholarship bridges theoretical international law with practical governance challenges in globalized economies.
