Anastasios Angelopoulos is an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati, affiliated with the School of Energy, Environmental, Biological, and Medical Engineering. He holds a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Tufts University (1984-1988) and Princeton University (1996). His research focuses on nanoparticle synthesis, electrocatalysis, and energy materials, particularly in fuel cell technology and environmental sensors.
Key research interests include platinum structure synthesis for fuel cells, confinement effects in heterogeneous catalysts, and layered nanoparticle assemblies for energy applications. He has secured grants from federal agencies (NSF, Air Force Office of Scientific Research) and industry partners (General Motors, Safran Landing Systems), totaling over $5 million. Notable collaborations include projects on advanced microscopy and X-ray spectroscopy instrumentation.
His awards include the 2008 American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund Award and the 2006 Fuel Cell Activities Achievement Award. He is a member of AIChE, ACS, and the Electrochemical Society. Angelopoulos has authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles and holds multiple patents related to nanocoatings and fuel cell components.
