Ananda Martin-Caughey is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Brown University, affiliated with the Data Science Institute. She holds a PhD from New York University (2023), an MPhil from NYU (2021), and a BA from Harvard College (2013). Her research focuses on stratification, work & organizations, gender, and race, with an emphasis on how evolving work patterns affect inequality. She uses large datasets and text analysis to study occupational segregation, labor market dynamics, and systemic inequities.
Her work has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, Russell Sage Foundation, and Washington Center for Equitable Growth. Key research areas include analyzing job title/task data from IRS and American Community Survey records, and studying billion-scale job ad datasets to track workplace inequality trends. Teaching includes courses on micro-organizational theory and gender, work, and inequality.
