Ana Siljak is an Associate Professor of Humanities at the University of Florida, specializing in Russian intellectual history and religious thought. She holds a Ph.D. in History from Harvard University (1997) and an A.B. in Political Science from Stanford University (1990). Her research focuses on Russian philosophy, secular modernity, and the intersection of religion with political and cultural movements. She has held a grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada to study the Russian Silver Age and is currently leading a project on Nikolai Berdiaev’s personalist philosophy. Key publications include Angel of Vengeance (2008) and the forthcoming Religion and Secular Modernity in Russian Christianity, Judaism, and Atheism (2024). Her work bridges historical analysis with philosophical inquiry, emphasizing figures like Berdiaev, Freud, and Nietzsche in shaping Russian intellectual traditions.
Recent articles explore themes such as Russian messianism, Freudian sublimation in cultural contexts, and Nietzsche’s influence on Russian Renaissance movements. Her awards include a Charles Taylor Prize nomination and recognition by The Globe and Mail. Siljak teaches courses on religion, revolution, and Western history, and collaborates on textbooks like Visions of the West (Oxford, 2025). Current projects include digitizing Berdiaev’s correspondence and creating interactive bibliographies to enhance accessibility of his works.
