Ana Oliveira

Ana Oliveira is a Heisenberg Professor of Molecular and Cellular Cognition Research at the Central Institute of Mental Health (CIMH) within Heidelberg University's Medical Faculty Mannheim. Her laboratory investigates molecular mechanisms underlying memory formation, neuroplasticity, and their dysfunctions in psychiatric disorders and aging. Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches combining behavioral testing, epigenetic analysis, and electrophysiological methods.

Key research focuses include transcriptional/epigenetic regulation of long-term adaptations, neuroplasticity responses to adverse environmental factors, and therapeutic strategies targeting these processes. Current DFG-funded projects (since 2021/2023) address molecular mechanisms of memory persistence, epigenetic control of cortical memories, and cognitive deficits in Tatton-Brown-Rahman syndrome models.

The Oliveira Lab collaborates with the Interdisciplinary Center for Neurosciences (IZN) and employs cutting-edge tools like engram reactivation and chemogenetics. Her research bridges basic molecular mechanisms with translational neurobiology, aiming to uncover therapeutic targets for cognitive disorders.
