Ana Luengo Palomino is an Associate Professor at San Francisco State University (SFSU), where she has served since 2015. She previously held a visiting professorship at the University of Washington (Seattle) and completed her academic training in Germany, earning a PhD from the University of Hamburg with a thesis on the collective memory of the Spanish Civil War in contemporary narrative. Her work bridges literary, cinematic, and cultural studies, focusing on themes of memory, violence representation, and postcolonial dynamics in Spain and Latin America.
Her research interests include the intersection of history and narrative, post-Franco Spain, and the cultural significance of film and television. She has authored/co-authored books such as La encrucijada de la memoria (2004, 2012) and edited volumes like Perpetradores y memoria democrática en España (2017). Currently, she coordinates the Spanish Program at SFSU and produces the podcast #RadioAnemocoria, exploring Iberian Studies with academic peers.
Recent scholarly contributions include chapters on Spain’s WWII neutrality myth and the revival of National Concord myths in media. She is also a creative writer, publishing a children’s story (Lucas tiene superpoderes) and a testimonial novel (Seguir viviendo). An upcoming project, Otras iluminaciones: narrativa, cultura y psicodélicos (2025), explores psychedelic influences in narrative and culture.
