Ana Lucia Araujo

Ana Lucia Araujo is a full Professor in the Department of History at Howard University and serves on UNESCO's International Scientific Committee of the Slave Route Project. A Brazilian-born scholar, she holds a PhD in Art History from Université Laval and a doctorate in Social Anthropology from École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales.

Her research examines:

• Transnational networks of the Atlantic slave trade
• Public memory and memorialization of slavery
• Visual culture and representation of enslavement
• Heritage tourism at slavery-related sites
• Reparations movements across the Americas

Her publications demonstrate consistent focus on slavery's legacy, with recent works analyzing museum representations (2021), plantation landscapes (2022), and reparations politics (2017).
