Ana Legrand is an Assistant Extension Professor at the University of Connecticut, affiliated with the Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture. She holds a PhD in Entomology from the University of Maryland (1999) and a BS in Biology from Cornell University (1991). Her research focuses on biological control, tritrophic interactions, and the ecology of insect predators and parasitoids. Key projects include using insectary plants to enhance pest control, studying brown marmorated stink bug egg parasitoids, and analyzing parasitoids of cabbage caterpillars. She also investigates drought-resistant plants' pollinator attraction potential.
Legrand teaches courses such as 'Integrated Pest Management' and 'Horticultural Entomology.' She is a member of the Entomological Society of America and the University of Connecticut Association of Latino Faculty and Staff. Her work emphasizes practical applications of entomology, including beneficial nematode use in turfgrass and plant-based conservation strategies for natural enemies. Her office is located in the Agricultural Biotechnology Lab (ABL 320E), and she can be reached at ana.legrand@uconn.edu.
