Ana Isabel Boullón Agrelo is a Full Professor in the Department of Galician Philology at the University of Santiago de Compostela. Since 1985, she has been affiliated with the Instituto da Lingua Galega (USC), where she serves on the scientific committee and leads the Onomastics Section.
She earned her degree in Galician-Portuguese Philology in 1985, completed her bachelor's in 1986, and received her Ph.D. in 1994 with a thesis on medieval Galician anthroponymy.
Her research spans onomastics, historical lexicography, and medieval text editing. She has coordinated major projects such as:
- Toponomasticon Hispaniae – a collaborative Iberian Peninsula-wide initiative
- Dictionary of Galician Surnames – forthcoming
- Guide to Galician Names – under the Royal Galician Academy
She is a permanent member of the Royal Galician Academy and serves on the editorial or scientific boards of multiple journals including Viceversa, Estudos de Lingüística Galega, and Rivista Italiana di Onomastica.
Recent publications in 2025 reflect her ongoing contributions to Galician onomastics, etymology, and oral tradition, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches combining linguistic, historical, and cultural analysis.
